Rewind Rewind is a German/American indie rock band formed in Hamburg, Germany in November 2019. The group consists of vocalist/bassist Sergio Gosewisch, guitarist/backup singer Rafael Alfonso Sanchez, and drummer Tim André Trachte. Sergio and Rafael formed the band after getting to know each other through a musician's group on social media. They met a couple of times shortly after messaging back and forth on Facebook. They bonded instantly after finding out they liked the same bands. Tim joined the band in February 2020 after the band decided to record a full album through the COVID19 pandemic. Sergio and Tim had already collaborated together in other projects.
The band is heavily influenced by the punk and post-punk movement of the 70s and 80s. Their self-released and self-titled debut album was recorded all in Sergio's apartment and Tim's basement. It was recorded with producer and close friend Daniel Rehder, and it was released on July 31st 2020. The album contains songs that are diverse in mood and style, but most use a minimalist punk approach combined with unorthodox structures and dreamy guitar effects.
They are influenced by bands such as Josef K, Joy Division, Wire, The Smiths, The Cure, and many more. However, in terms of their lyrics and image they are a bit more upbeat, louder and austere than the bands mentioned above. The lyrics talk about hopeless romantics, socially awkward situations people might experience in the mundane life, and the disappointment of the world being managed by terrible politicians. Their songs are diverse and talk about everything.
They describe their music as "basement indie" due to the fact that they record and produce everything by themselves or with close friends.
